This pivot pin serves as the central hinge point for the rear axle assembly, allowing the axle housing to oscillate relative the tractor chassis. It carries the full vertical load from the rear of the machine and transmits lateral forces during steering and sidehill operation. Wear on the pin bore or the pin itself introduces play in the suspension, which leads to uneven tire contact and reduced stability on uneven terrain. The original-manufacturer pin is machined to the same clearance as the axle housing bore, so no bushing shimming is required during installation. On reinstall, ensure the retaining hardware is torqued to specification.
