This roller chain transmits drive from the gearbox output to the pickup and feeder mechanisms inside a baler. It is a 16B-series chain assembled as two matched strands of 77 links each, which allows it to wrap the sprockets on both sides of the machine simultaneously. A worn or stretched chain causes timing slip between the pickup tines and the plunger, leading to uneven bale density and increased shear-bolt failures. The manufacturer machines the pins and bushings to the original pitch tolerance so the chain seats correctly on the sprockets without requiring a take-up adjustment beyond the normal range. When replacing, inspect the sprocket teeth for hook wear and replace the chain as a matched pair to maintain equal tension across both strands.
