A degraded or crushed O-ring allows oil to weep past the joint, which can lead to low lubricant level and accelerated wear of the differential or final-drive gears. This part is manufactured to the same cross-section and durometer as the original seal, so it seats correctly in the groove without requiring additional sealant or shimming. On reinstall, clean the groove thoroughly and inspect the mating face for burrs before fitting the new ring.
