This bearing race forms the inner contact surface for the roller bearings in the rear axle housing. It supports the axle shaft and maintains proper bearing preload, which controls wheel-end play and gear mesh alignment within the final drive. A worn or brinelled race produces a low-frequency rumble during turns and can allow the axle shaft to shift, leading to seal leakage and uneven tire wear. The race is machined to match the original housing bore and shaft shoulder dimensions, so the bearing stack height and shim pack remain unchanged during replacement. On installation, clean the housing bore thoroughly and press the race squarely against its shoulder; do not reuse a race that has been removed.
