This hydraulic accumulator stores pressurized fluid for the tractor's brake system. It maintains a reserve of energy so that the brakes can be applied with consistent force even when the hydraulic pump is not running, such as during engine start-up or if the pump loses pressure. The accumulator is charged with nitrogen gas on one side of a diaphragm; the gas compresses as fluid enters, storing energy that is released when the brake pedal is actuated. A loss of gas charge or a ruptured diaphragm results in a spongy or unresponsive brake pedal, as the system can no longer hold pressure.
