This O-ring seals the interface between the rear axle housing and its mating cover or component. It prevents lubricant leakage from the axle assembly and keeps contaminants out of the bearing and gear cavity. A degraded or compressed O-ring causes a visible oil weep or drip at the housing joint. The seal relies on a clean, undamaged groove surface and proper cross-section compression to maintain a leak-free joint. Replace the O-ring whenever the housing is opened for service.
