This external air filter element captures airborne particulates before intake air reaches the engine's induction system. It mounts in the housing on the engine side of the air cleaner assembly, upstream of the internal safety element. A restricted element reduces airflow to the combustion chambers, causing a drop in power and increased fuel consumption. The manufacturer's design matches the housing's sealing surfaces and the internal filter's interface, so the two elements seat correctly together. On replacement, ensure the housing seal is clean and the cover is fully latched.
