It prevents oil vapor and combustion blow-by from leaking past the breather housing, maintaining the correct crankcase pressure that the engine management system relies on for consistent operation. A degraded seal here allows unmetered air into the intake tract, which can cause rough idle, increased oil consumption, or diagnostic trouble codes for mixture imbalance. The gasket is manufactured by AGCO to match the original housing's sealing face geometry and compression set, so no additional sealant is needed during installation.
