A degraded gasket causes oil seepage at the joint, which can lead to low lubricant levels and accelerated gear wear. The gasket is formed to the same contour as the original component, matching the bolt-hole pattern and sealing faces of the housing. On reinstall, clean both mating surfaces and apply the specified torque to the housing bolts.
