This engine oil filter removes particulate contamination from the engine lubrication circuit before oil reaches the main bearing journals and turbocharger supply. It mounts to the filter head on the engine block, where unfiltered oil enters through the outer annulus and passes through the filter media before exiting through the central standpipe to the gallery. A clogged filter restricts flow, causing the bypass valve to open and send unfiltered oil to the engine, which accelerates bearing and turbo wear. As an original-manufacturer component, the filter body and sealing gasket match the housing bore geometry so the bypass valve seats correctly at the specified cracking pressure. On replacement, clean the filter head sealing surface and pre-fill the filter with clean oil before installation.
