When the coil receives current, it generates a magnetic field that pulls the armature, overcoming the return spring and moving the spool. A failed coil produces no magnetic pull, leaving the spool in its default position and preventing the front-axle function from engaging. The coil is wound to the original resistance specification so that the control unit’s current draw and switching time match the valve’s design parameters. On replacement, verify that the electrical connector seals cleanly and that the coil seats fully against the valve body to avoid moisture ingress.
