This engine rubber damper absorbs torsional vibrations from the crankshaft before they reach the front accessory drive. It is mounted between the crankshaft pulley and the engine block, where its elastomeric element decouples low-frequency oscillations that would otherwise fatigue the belt-driven components. A degraded damper allows vibration to transmit into the alternator, water pump, and fan hub, causing premature bearing wear and belt slip. The original assembly matches the stiffness and damping coefficient of the factory-installed unit, preserving the tuned response of the drive system. On reinstallation, ensure the mounting bolts are torqued to specification and that the damper is not twisted during tightening.
