This primary fuel filter element removes water and particulate contamination from the fuel stream before it enters the high-pressure injection pump. It is installed in the fuel line between the tank and the lift pump, protecting the injection system components from abrasive wear and corrosion. A restricted or water-saturated filter element reduces fuel flow, which can cause power loss, hard starting, and erratic engine operation. The filter housing seal and water-drain bowl must be inspected during replacement to prevent air ingress into the fuel system.
