This external air filter element is the primary intake filter for the engine air induction system. It captures airborne particulate before the air reaches the turbocharger compressor inlet and the intake manifold. The filter element fits into the housing on the engine side of the air cleaner assembly. A secondary inner safety element is used behind it to protect the engine if the primary element is damaged during servicing. A restricted or clogged element increases intake restriction, which reduces engine power and can increase fuel consumption. The manufacturer produces this element to match the original housing seal geometry and pleat density, ensuring the correct filtration efficiency and air-flow capacity for the engine. During replacement, inspect the housing seal surface and ensure the element is fully seated before closing the cover.
