This spin-on engine oil filter removes particulate from the lubricating oil circuit before the oil reaches the main bearing journals and the turbocharger supply. It mounts on the filter head on the side of the engine block and contains a pleated paper media that traps wear debris from the pistons, rings, and valve train. A clogged filter restricts oil flow, which can cause the bypass valve to open and send unfiltered oil through the engine, accelerating bearing wear. The filter housing is crimped to the baseplate to maintain the burst-pressure rating required for cold-start conditions. On installation, lubricate the gasket face with clean oil and tighten the housing by hand until the gasket contacts the head, then advance an additional three-quarters of a turn.
