This engine oil filter removes particulate and contaminants from the lubricating oil circuit before oil reaches the main bearing journals and turbocharger supply. It mounts to the filter head on the engine block; the threaded center tube seals against the head's gasket face to prevent bypass leakage. A clogged filter element forces the bypass valve to open, sending unfiltered oil through the engine, which accelerates bearing and turbo wear. The filter's sealing gasket matches the head's groove geometry so that the bypass valve seats correctly at the specified cracking pressure. On reinstall, lightly oil the gasket and torque the filter to the value printed on the head.
