This fuel pressure valve is mounted on the injection rail of a common-rail diesel engine. It regulates the pressure within the rail by opening to return excess fuel to the tank when the commanded pressure is exceeded. The valve works in concert with the high-pressure pump and the injectors to maintain the precise rail pressure required for each injection event. A failing valve can cause erratic rail pressure, leading to rough running, reduced power, or a no-start condition. As an original component, its internal spring and seat geometry are calibrated to match the engine management system's pressure-control strategy.
