It accommodates misalignment between the tie rod and the axle housing while transmitting steering loads. Wear in the bearing produces free play at the wheel, which manifests as wandering or imprecise steering response. The double-lip seal on this bearing retains grease and excludes contaminants, which is critical for a component mounted low on the axle. On installation, press the bearing into the housing with the seal faces oriented outward and confirm the retaining circlip is fully seated.
