A degraded or flattened O-ring allows fluid seepage along the shaft, which can lead to clutch slippage and a gradual loss of engagement force. The original part is molded to the correct cross-section and durometer for the groove depth in the housing, ensuring the seal compresses evenly without extrusion. On reinstall, inspect the groove for burrs and lubricate the O-ring with clean fluid before assembly.
