This shaft seal retains lubricant and excludes contaminants at the rotating shaft exit of the front-axle housing. It sits between the rotating shaft and the stationary housing bore, with its sealing lip riding on the shaft surface to prevent oil leakage from the final-drive or steering-knuckle cavity. A worn seal allows gear oil to weep past the lip, leading to lubricant loss and eventual bearing or gear damage if the fluid level drops. The manufacturer produces this seal to the same lip-profile and interference-fit dimensions as the original assembly, so it seats correctly in the housing bore without additional shimming or modification. On installation, ensure the bore is clean and free of burrs, and press the seal squarely to the specified depth.
