A worn or hardened seal allows oil to weep past the contact lip, which can lead to reduced lubrication levels and accelerated bearing wear. The seal is manufactured to the same dimensional and material specifications as the original assembly, ensuring the interference fit and lip pressure match the housing bore and shaft surface. On installation, inspect the shaft contact area for grooves or pitting; a damaged shaft surface will cause the new seal to leak prematurely.
