It is positioned to carry radial and axial loads from the driveline components, maintaining alignment between the input shaft and the driven assembly. A worn bearing produces audible noise, vibration, and increased operating temperature, and if left in service it can lead to shaft misalignment and damage to the housing or adjacent gears.
