Case IH 10001 – Auxiliary Control Unit: Upper lockout solenoid error
Issue description
This code indicates an electrical issue—such as an open circuit, short circuit, or swapped wiring—in the circuit for the upper lockout solenoid (often designated as Valve 30 or component Y004).
Applies to these machines
6 machines- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- Maxxum
- MAXXUM T4E
- Case IH Puma Series
- Case IH Magnum Series
- Case IH Steiger Series
Check the cause
Check for Open/Short Circuits: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the upper lockout solenoid for breaks, chafing, or an open circuit.
Test the Connector: Locate connector X507 (Upper Lockout Solenoid). Test wire 3280 (Suspension Lockout Solenoid Upper / Power) and wire 3281 (Suspension Lockout Solenoid Upper Return / Ground) for continuity and proper voltage.
Check for Swapped Connectors: Verify that the wiring harness connectors for Valve 30 (Upper Lockout, X507) and Valve 31 (Lower Lockout, X508) were not accidentally swapped during previous maintenance.
Check Current Sense Inputs: Verify that the current sense inputs for the upper and lower lockout solenoids have not been swapped at the controller.
Repair steps
Prepare tractor for service
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower any implements, apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Relieve hydraulic pressure from the front suspension system.
Locate valve block
Locate the front axle suspension valve block (typically mounted near the front axle/chassis).
Identify solenoid
Identify the Upper Lockout Solenoid (Y004) on the valve block.
Inspect connector
Disconnect connector X507. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals. Clean or repair the connector if necessary.
Remove faulty solenoid
If the wiring and connector are intact, the solenoid coil itself has likely failed. Remove the retaining nut and slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge.
Install replacement solenoid
Install the replacement solenoid and tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer's torque specification.
Reconnect connector
Reconnect connector X507, ensuring it is not mixed up with the lower lockout solenoid (X508).
Clear fault codes
Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool.
Recalibrate system
After repairing front suspension components, the system may require recalibration. If code 10024 ("Front suspension not calibrated") appears, you must run the front axle calibration routine.
Parts you might need
(1)Front Axle Suspension Upper Lockout Solenoid (Component Y004 / Valve 30)
Ensure you are replacing the Upper lockout solenoid (Y004) and not the Lower lockout solenoid (Y005) or the Raise/Lower solenoids, as they are located on the same valve block.
