10003

Case IH 10003 – ATC (Advanced Tractor Control) module or Front Suspension Controller: Front suspension piston Side Valve solenoid is open circuit or shorted to ground

Issue description

This code indicates an electrical failure in the circuit controlling the front suspension's hydraulic valve. The system has detected that the electrical path to the "piston side" solenoid coil is either broken/disconnected (open circuit) or that the voltage is taking an unintended path directly to the chassis (shorted to ground). When this occurs, the controller cannot actuate the valve to adjust or maintain the front suspension height and pressure.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Magnum
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH MX Magnum Series
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the front suspension control valve block, wiring harness, and connector for broken wires, rubbed insulation, or corrosion.

  2. Perform a coil resistance test on the solenoid (infinite reading indicates an open circuit, zero or continuity to chassis indicates a short to ground).

  3. Check the wiring harness for continuity between the ATC/Suspension controller pins and the solenoid connector.

  4. Verify that the fuses supplying voltage to the suspension solenoids (e.g., 12VM, 12VF1, or 12VF3) are not blown.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Park the tractor on a level surface. Turn off the engine. Ensure the front suspension is fully lowered to the stops or mechanically supported to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the accumulator and cylinders.

  2. Disconnect Electrical

Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty piston side valve solenoid.

  3. Harness Repair

If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring (a common issue near the fan shroud or axle pivot), splice and repair the damaged section of the harness using weather-sealed connectors.

  4. Solenoid Replacement

If the coil itself failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem that secures the solenoid coil.

  5. Swap the Coil

Slide the old solenoid coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge. Slide the new OEM coil onto the stem and tighten the retaining nut.

  6. Reassemble

Reconnect the electrical harness to the new solenoid.

  7. Calibrate

Turn the key on, clear the stored fault codes via the instrument cluster or diagnostic tool, and perform a front suspension calibration procedure as outlined in the service manual to restore full functionality.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Front Suspension Piston Side Valve Solenoid / Suspension Control Valve Solenoid Coil

Look up the specific solenoid coil in the Case IH parts catalog under Section 05-08 (Hydraulic System - Suspended MFD Axle) or Section 25.122 (Front Axle Suspension) using your machine's exact PIN.
