Case IH 10018 – Front Suspension controller (ATC or TRANS): Front Suspension Pump not tank Solenoid over current
Issue description
The control module has detected an over-current condition (typically caused by a short circuit) on the circuit for the solenoid valve that directs hydraulic pump pressure to the front suspension cylinders.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- Magnum
- Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
- Case IH Steiger
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness between the front suspension controller and the suspension pump solenoid for rubbed-through insulation causing a short to ground or power.
Disconnect the solenoid and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, water ingress, or damage.
Measure the resistance of the solenoid coil with a multimeter. A reading of near-zero ohms indicates the coil is internally shorted.
Check the front suspension 12V supply fuses (e.g., 12VM, 12VF1, 12VF3) to verify if an over-current event blew the corresponding circuit fuse.
Repair steps
Relieve hydraulic pressure
Turn off the tractor, lower the front suspension if possible, and ensure all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the front suspension accumulator and valve block.
Locate manifold
Locate the front suspension control valve manifold (typically mounted near the front axle).
Disconnect connector
Disconnect the electrical connector from the 'pump' solenoid valve.
Remove faulty coil
Remove the retaining nut at the top of the solenoid and slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: If the cartridge itself is physically damaged or stuck, unscrew the cartridge from the manifold and replace both).
Install new coil
Install the new solenoid coil, ensuring that the O-ring is correctly located under the retaining nut, and tighten.
Reconnect harness
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear codes and calibrate
Clear the fault codes via the cab monitor. You may need to run a front suspension calibration procedure after the repair is complete.
