Case IH 1002 – EDC: Raise Hitch Valve Coil Circuit Failure
Issue description
The Electronic Draft Control (EDC) unit has detected an electrical fault in the circuit responsible for raising the hitch. The system is registering either a short to a 12-volt power source or a general open circuit failure in the wiring leading to the hitch raise solenoid valve.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Puma
- Farmall
Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the hitch raise solenoid for visible damage, rubbing, or broken wires.
Verify that connectors at both the hitch raise valve coil and the EDC/Hitch ECU are fully installed, undamaged, and have tight fitting pins.
Perform a harness flex test by flexing the involved wiring harnesses while the machine is keyed on, monitoring the cab display for intermittent faults.
Disconnect the harness from the ECU and solenoid, then use a multimeter to check for continuity and test for a short to a 12V power source.
Test the internal resistance of the raise hitch valve coil to ensure the solenoid has not failed internally and shorted out.
Repair steps
Relieve hydraulic pressure
Ensure the engine is off, the tractor is blocked, the hitch is fully lowered or mechanically supported, and hydraulic pressure is relieved before working on valves.
Repair wiring harness
If diagnostic checks reveal a damaged wire or a loose/corroded connector pin, repair the wiring harness or splice in a new connector pigtail.
Replace solenoid valve assembly
If the coil is internally shorted or open, disconnect the electrical harness, remove the retaining nut or unbolt the valve body, replace O-rings using a new seal kit, and install the new valve tightened to OEM torque specs.
Clear fault codes
Use the electronic display or a diagnostic scan tool (such as Jaltest or Case EST) to erase the fault code.
Test hitch operation
Operate the machine and cycle the hitch to verify that the error has been resolved and the hitch raises smoothly.
