Case IH 1002 – Hitch Control Module / EDC (Electronic Draft Control): Radar disconnected or Radar disabled

The control module has lost communication with or is not receiving a valid signal from the ground speed radar sensor. (Note: On some specific newer models like the Magnum Series 4, Hitch code 1002 can alternatively indicate a raise hitch valve coil short to 12 volts or raise hitch valve coil circuit failure).

   Locate the radar sensor (typically mounted under the cab or on the lower chassis) and visually inspect if the lens is heavily obscured by mud or debris.

   Verify that the wiring harness is securely plugged into the radar unit, as an unplugged connector is the most likely cause.

   Inspect the wiring harness for chafing, breaks, or rodent damage between the radar sensor and the EDC module.

   Disconnect the sensor and check for bent pins, moisture, or corrosion inside the connector.

   Use a multimeter to verify that the radar sensor is receiving proper reference voltage and ground from the EDC module.

   Power off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable.

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a damaged harness, repair the broken wires or replace the radar harness adapter.

   If the wiring and voltages test good, the radar sensor has likely failed internally and must be replaced.

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the faulty radar sensor.

   Remove the mounting bolts securing the radar sensor to its bracket.

   Install the new radar sensor and tighten the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect the wiring harness securely.

   Reconnect the battery.

   Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic scan tool (such as Jaltest or Case IH EST) or via the tractor's in-cab display monitor.

    Perform a test drive to verify that true ground speed is registering on the monitor and that the slip control system is functioning without throwing the 1002 code.
