Case IH 10021 – Front Suspension control module: Front Suspension lock out Solenoid over current
Issue description
The controller has detected an electrical current draw from the front suspension lockout solenoid that exceeds the maximum allowable limit. This typically points to a short circuit in the wiring harness or a dead short inside the solenoid coil itself.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the front suspension lockout solenoid for a short to ground, paying special attention to the routing near the bottom of the fan shroud for wire chafing.
Perform a coil resistance test by disconnecting the electrical connector at the lockout solenoid and measuring the coil's resistance with a multimeter (a healthy 68 VDC coil should measure around 30 Ohms; near 0 Ohms indicates an internal short).
Perform a circuit test on the harness side of the connector using a multimeter to check for a short to power or short to ground.
Repair steps
Park tractor
Park the tractor on a level surface.
Depressurize the system
Locate the load sense unload valve screw on the suspension valve block. Rotate it clockwise to depressurize the system and allow the front axle to lower completely until it rests safely on its mechanical support stops.
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent accidental startup or electrical spikes.
Locate lockout solenoid
Locate the lockout solenoid on the suspended axle control valve assembly (near the accumulators).
Disconnect electrical harness
Disconnect the electrical harness from the solenoid.
Remove solenoid or cartridge
Depending on the exact failure and valve type, either remove the retaining nut to slide off and replace the solenoid coil, or use a wrench (e.g., 24mm or 7/8" hex) to unscrew and replace the entire cartridge valve assembly.
Install new components
Install the new solenoid/cartridge, ensuring any O-rings are properly seated and lubricated.
Reconnect electricals
Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery.
Repressurize and test
Repressurize the suspension system, clear the fault codes, and test the lockout function to ensure the code does not return.
