Case IH 10029 – CCM (Chassis Control Module): Front axle position sensor – out of range high fault
Issue description
The signal voltage returning from the front axle position sensor to the controller is exceeding the maximum expected threshold, indicating a short to power (5V or 12V), an open ground circuit, or an internal failure (short) within the sensor itself.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Optum CVT series
- Optum 270
- Optum 300
- Puma LWB series
- T7.315
Check the cause
Access the tractor's instrument cluster (ICU2) or diagnostic display to view the live front axle position sensor output voltage (in mV) and verify it is pegged high.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors routing from the CCM to the front axle position sensor for physical damage, rubbed-through wire insulation, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.
Test the sensor ground circuit for high resistance or an open circuit.
Test the signal wire for a short to a power source (5V or 12V).
Disconnect the sensor. If the signal voltage on the diagnostic display drops to zero (or out of range low), the wiring is likely intact and the sensor itself has failed internally.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the front axle position sensor mounted on the front axle suspension linkage/assembly.
Remove the Faulty Sensor
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor. Remove the retaining hardware and extract the sensor from its mounting bracket.
Wiring Repair (If Applicable)
If diagnostic checks revealed an open ground or short to power in the harness, repair the damaged wiring section and seal it with heat-shrink tubing.
Install the New Sensor
Mount the replacement OEM front axle position sensor and secure the retaining hardware. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and clear the inactive 10029 fault code from the CCM.
Calibrate the Suspension
You must perform a front suspension calibration procedure. Failure to calibrate the new sensor will result in the suspension failing to operate and will trigger a secondary fault code: 10024 - Front suspension not calibrated.
