Case IH 10030 – CCM (Chassis Control Module): Front axle position sensor – out of range low fault
Issue description
This fault indicates that the signal voltage returning from the front axle position sensor has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This typically points to a short to ground in the sensor wiring, a failed sensor internally shorting out, or a mechanical issue causing the sensor linkage to travel beyond its normal physical limit.

Check the cause
Inspect the front axle position sensor and its physical linkage for damage. Ensure the sensor bracket is not bent and the linkage is intact.
Disconnect the sensor and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins.
Turn the key ON and use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) and has a solid ground.
Check the signal wire between the sensor connector and the CCM for a short to ground, which is the most common cause of an 'out of range low' code.
Ensure the front axle suspension is not mechanically bound, collapsed, or over-extended, which could force the sensor outside its normal operating range.
Repair steps
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and lower any attached implements.
Ensure the machine is safely parked before beginning repairs.
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Disconnecting the battery is necessary to protect the electrical system during sensor replacement.
Locate the front axle position sensor on the front axle suspension assembly.
Identify the sensor's location on the suspension assembly.
Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the sensor.
Carefully unplug the electrical connection.
Unbolt the sensor from its mounting bracket and carefully detach it from the suspension linkage.
Remove the faulty sensor from the machine.
Install the replacement front axle position sensor, ensuring the linkage is properly aligned and moves freely without binding.
Proper alignment is critical to prevent mechanical binding.
Torque the mounting hardware to OEM specifications and reconnect the electrical harness.
Secure the sensor and restore the electrical connection.
Reconnect the battery.
Restore power to the tractor.
Perform a front suspension calibration using the tractor's display monitor or a diagnostic service tool.
Crucial Step: The CCM needs to learn the new sensor's minimum and maximum travel values.
Clear the 10030 fault code and test the front axle suspension through its full range of motion to verify the repair.
Ensure the fault does not return and the suspension operates correctly.
