Case IH 10031 – PTO Controller: Controller Memory Failure

Controller memory error resulting in the loss of PTO (Power Take-Off) and brake lamp configurations (EEPROM checksum error). The possible failure modes are either a memory defect/intermittent ECU failure or a software defect.

   Check power and ground connections to the PTO controller, specifically inspecting connector C057 for damaged, bent, or dislocated pins.

   Access the PTO controller configuration menu and verify the PTO SPEED and B LAMPS (Brake Lamps) settings.

   Perform a functionality test to observe if the settings hold as configured, and test the PTO, MFD (Mechanical Front Drive), and differential lock.

   Inspect connector C057

   Inspect connector C057 at the PTO controller. Clean the contacts, ensure the ground is secure, and verify battery voltage is reaching the module.

   Reset configuration settings

   Re-enter the PTO controller configuration and manually reset the PTO SPEED and B LAMPS settings.

   Test settings retention

   Cycle the key and operate the tractor to see if the settings are retained in the module's memory.

   Evaluate and resolve

   If the settings hold and the PTO, MFD, and diff-lock operate normally, the fault code was likely a temporary software glitch and can be ignored. If the settings do not hold, or if the PTO, MFD, and diff-lock fail to function, the controller's internal memory is permanently defective and the PTO controller must be replaced.
