10034

Case IH 10034 – INST (Instrumentation Controller / ICU): Controller Memory Error: Loss of valid fuel table information.

Issue description

The controller's memory has lost the specific fuel table data required to calculate and display fuel consumption and performance metrics. This usually happens if the controller's software was recently updated but the new fuel table wasn't loaded, or if the memory chip is failing.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • 215
  • 235
  • 245
  • 275
  • 305
  • 340
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • 500
  • 550
  • Case IH TG Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify recent service history to see if the tractor recently had a software update, which automatically wipes the old fuel table.

  2. Check for battery or voltage drops, ensuring the tractor hasn't experienced a severe low-voltage event or a battery disconnect without a normal key-off sequence.

  3. Monitor for intermittent failure by checking if the controller is losing other memory parameters (like radar configuration, remote timers, or engine hours—codes 10031 through 10038), which indicates defective internal memory.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the machine's diagnostic port.

  2. Navigate to Fuel Update

Navigate to the Fuel Update Screen within the service tool.

  3. Load fuel table

Select and load a new, valid fuel table into the Instrumentation Controller.

  4. Clear fault codes

Clear the fault codes using the EST.

  5. Verify repair

Shut down the tractor, wait for the modules to power down completely, and restart to verify the code does not return.

  6. Replace controller

If the code returns immediately after a key cycle, the Instrumentation Controller has a hard memory defect and must be replaced.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Instrumentation Controller (INST) / Instrument Cluster / ICU

Varies heavily by specific tractor model, cab configuration, and serial number break. Must be programmed by a dealer using the EST to flash the correct firmware, vehicle configuration, and fuel tables for the specific tractor.
