Case IH 10036 – INST (Instrumentation Controller / Display Monitor): Controller Memory Error - Loss of Displayed Performance information

Issue description

The controller has experienced a memory fault and has lost saved performance data, which typically includes valid area, distance, and remote timer information.

Applies to these machines

  • Case IH MX Magnum and TG Series
  • Case IH Magnum 215
  • Case IH Steiger and STX Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify battery voltage and ensure the ground circuits to the instrumentation controller are clean and tight to prevent voltage drops.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connected to the instrument cluster for loose pins, corrosion, or damage.

  3. Check if the Analog/Digital Inst Cluster (ADIC) requires a software update to resolve persistent memory errors.

  4. Attempt to manually reset or re-enter the performance data (timers, area, distance) into the display to see if the controller retains the new information after a key cycle.

Repair steps

  1. Cycle Power

Turn the key switch off, wait for the system to power down completely, and turn it back on to see if the INST 10036 code is an active or stored (inactive) fault.

  2. Clear the Code

Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault code from the Instrumentation Controller.

  3. Update Software

If the code returns immediately, connect the EST and flash the instrument cluster with the latest software version provided by Case IH.

  4. Repair or Replace the Cluster

If the memory error is internal to the circuit board (often accompanied by physical display degradation like vertical/horizontal lines or dim backlighting), the instrument cluster must be removed. You can either send the unit to an agricultural electronics repair specialist (such as Ag Express) for board-level diagnostics and memory/power supply stabilization, or replace the cluster entirely.
