Case IH 10052 – CCM (Chassis Control Module / Cab Control Module): Piston side solenoid open circuit / short to GND

The 'piston side' solenoid acts as the Raise Solenoid for the Terraglide front axle suspension or the hitch system. The fault indicates that the controller has detected a break in the wiring (open circuit) or a wire that is shorting out against the tractor's chassis/ground on the circuit controlling this solenoid.

   Inspect the wiring harness from the CCM to the lockout valve block for rubbing or damage, especially near 'P' clamps or articulation joints.

   Perform a solenoid resistance test across the pins to check for an internal coil failure (infinite resistance indicates open, zero indicates shorted).

   Test the wiring harness for continuity from the solenoid connector back to the CCM, and ensure there is no continuity to the tractor frame (short to ground).

   Check the solenoid plug and CCM connectors for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back pins.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower any implements, and open the engine hood.

   Disconnect Power

   Detach the negative cable from the battery and insulate it to prevent accidental shorts during repair.

   Locate the Valve Block

   Locate the Terraglide front axle suspension control valve or hitch remote valve block. Identify the Piston Side (Raise) Solenoid (often located on the top or side of the lockout valve assembly).

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid. Remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem and slide the faulty coil assembly off the cartridge.

   Install the New Solenoid

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem. If applicable, replace the backup rings/seals on the cartridge. Tighten the retaining nut to the specified torque.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical plug to the new solenoid. Reconnect the battery negative cable.

   Calibration

   Start the tractor and clear the fault codes. Perform the Suspended Front Axle Calibration (H1 procedure) or hitch calibration via the electronic instrument cluster to ensure the microprocessor can accurately return the suspension to its set point.
