Case IH 10054 – CCM (Chassis Control Module): Rod side solenoid open circuit / short to GND

Issue description

The controller has detected that the circuit for the solenoid valve controlling the 'rod side' (the lowering side of the front suspension hydraulic cylinder) is either broken (open circuit) or shorted to ground. When this occurs, the front suspension will typically fail to lower or operate properly.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the front suspension cylinder control valve housing (manifold block), wiring harness, and electrical connector to the rod side solenoid for damage, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

  2. Use a digital multimeter to test the wiring harness between the Chassis Control Module (CCM) and the solenoid for continuity (to rule out an open circuit) and continuity to ground (to rule out a short to the chassis).

  3. Measure the resistance of the rod side solenoid coil itself; an infinite reading indicates an internal open circuit requiring replacement.

  4. Verify that the suspension system is receiving proper voltage and check related fuses, as low 12V supply voltages or blown fuses can cause suspension solenoid faults.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

    Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Safely support the front chassis and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the front axle suspension accumulators and cylinders before loosening any hydraulic components.

  2. Access the Valve Block

    Locate the front suspension control valve block.

  3. Remove the Faulty Solenoid

    Disconnect the electrical harness from the rod side solenoid. Remove the retaining nut/cap (such as the protective cap plate) securing the solenoid coil.

  4. Replace the Component

    If only the electrical coil is open/shorted, slide the old coil off the valve cartridge and install the new one. If the valve cartridge itself is damaged, unscrew it from the manifold block and install a new cartridge, taking care to lubricate the O-rings with clean hydraulic fluid.

  5. Reassembly

    Secure the solenoid, reinstall any protective caps (e.g., OEM cap 84130922), and reconnect the wiring harness.

  6. Calibration

    After repairing the circuit or replacing the valve, you must perform the front suspension auto-calibration procedure so the CCM can relearn the minimum and maximum travel limits of the suspension.
