Case IH 10057 – CCM (Chassis Control Module): Piston lockout solenoid short to VBatt

Issue description

The controller has detected that the electrical circuit for the Suspended Front Axle (SFA) lower/piston lockout solenoid is shorted to battery voltage (12V).

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Puma (CVX and PowerDrive)
  • Optum
  • Magnum

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the CCM and the Suspended Front Axle control valve block for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points.

  2. Disconnect the harness at the CCM and use a multimeter to check for continuity to battery voltage on pin CN2-3.

  3. Inspect the electrical connector at the lower lockout solenoid (Valve 31) for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.

  4. Ensure the connectors for the upper lockout solenoid (Valve 30) and lower lockout solenoid (Valve 31) have not been accidentally swapped.

  5. Measure the internal resistance of the lower lockout solenoid coil to determine if the solenoid has an internal short.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

Park the tractor on a level surface. Lower the front suspension completely (if possible) or properly support the front chassis to relieve hydraulic pressure in the SFA system. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery.

  2. Locate the SFA Valve Block

Locate the Suspended Front Axle control valve manifold, typically mounted near the front axle assembly.

  3. Identify the Solenoid

Locate the lower/piston lockout solenoid on the valve block.

  4. Isolate the Short

Disconnect the solenoid. Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position. Test the harness-side connector with a multimeter. If 12V is still present on the control circuit when it shouldn't be, the wiring harness must be repaired or replaced.

  5. Replace the Solenoid

If the harness tests fine and the short is isolated to the solenoid coil itself, remove the retaining nut/clip holding the solenoid coil to the valve cartridge.

  6. Install the New Part

Slide the new lockout solenoid coil onto the valve cartridge and secure it. Reconnect the electrical connector.

  7. Clear Codes and Calibrate

Reconnect the battery, turn on the tractor, and navigate to the CCM diagnostic menu to clear the stored 10057 fault code.

  8. Test Operation

Perform a functional test of the front suspension using the SFA lock switch to ensure the axle raises, lowers, and locks out correctly without throwing the code.
