Case IH 10058 – Chassis Control Module (CCM): Rod lockout solenoid open circuit / short to GND
Issue description
The control module has detected that the electrical circuit supplying the upper/rod lockout solenoid on the front axle suspension system is either broken (open circuit) or has a path shorting directly to ground. This solenoid is responsible for locking the suspension movement; when it fails, the front suspension may not level or operate correctly.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Magnum 250
- Magnum 280
- Magnum 310
- Magnum 315
- Magnum 340
- Magnum 380
- Puma Series (LWB models)
- Optum Series
Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness routing to the upper/rod lockout solenoid on the front axle suspension control valve block for chafing, pinching, or melting.
Disconnect the Upper Lockout Solenoid connector (X507) and check for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.
Test Wire 3280 (Orange, +12V feed) and Wire 3281 (Tan, return/ground) for continuity between the CCM and the solenoid connector, and verify neither is shorted to the tractor chassis (ground).
Measure the resistance across the pins of the solenoid coil. An infinite reading indicates an internal open circuit (dead solenoid).
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic tests revealed a broken or shorted wire on circuits 3280 or 3281, repair the harness using OEM-approved weather-sealed splices, or replace the damaged connector pigtail.
Replace the Solenoid
If the wiring tests good but the solenoid coil is open/shorted: Relieve hydraulic pressure from the front suspension system, disconnect the X507 electrical connector, unthread the faulty upper/rod lockout solenoid valve from the suspension control block, and install the new lockout solenoid valve and torque to OEM specifications.
Reassembly and Calibration
Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery. Clear the inactive fault codes from the CCM. Perform a front suspension calibration via the tractor's display to ensure the system can properly find its nominal height set points.
