Case IH 10061 – PTO Controller: PTO Solenoid Power Supply Relay Contact Voltage Out Of Range High
Issue description
PTO Solenoid Shorted to 12V or Internal Controller Relay failed closed. The controller senses voltage on this circuit when the relay is not energized.
Applies to these machines

- MX Magnum Series
- MX210
- MX230
- MX255
- MX285
- MX305
- Steiger / STX Series

Check the cause
Remove the controller cover from the rear of the tractor
Inspect the wire harness routing of the controllers to ensure it is installed securely against the cab (make sure wires are not loose or draped in front of the controllers)
Turn the ignition key to the ON position
Observe the LED lamp on the PTO controller: If the LED lamp is flashing OFF and ON, the fault is likely a short to 12V in the wiring harness. If the LED lamp is ON STEADY, the internal relay inside the controller has failed closed.
Repair steps
Replace PTO Controller
If the LED is ON STEADY (Scenario A), the internal relay is permanently stuck closed. You must replace the PTO Controller.
Trace wiring harness
If the LED is flashing OFF and ON (Scenario B), the controller is okay, but there is a wiring issue. Trace the wiring harness from the PTO controller to the PTO solenoid.
Repair or replace wiring
Locate the section of the wire that is shorted to a 12V power source and repair or replace the damaged wiring harness section.
