Case IH 10072 – Hitch Controller: Controller failure - Raise valve driver is shorted to 12 volts

The hitch raise coil driver (an internal relay/driver circuit) inside the hitch controller has shorted to 12 volts. This usually points to a hard internal failure of the controller itself rather than an external wiring issue.

   Inspect Power and Ground: Verify that the Hitch Controller has clean, secure, and adequate power and ground connections. A bad ground can sometimes cause internal drivers to fault or report false shorts.

   Inspect Wiring: Check the wiring harness leading from the controller to the hitch raise valve solenoid to ensure the wire itself hasn't rubbed bare and shorted directly to a 12V power source.

   Make sure the controller has good power and ground connections.

   Verify that the Hitch Controller has clean, secure, and adequate power and ground connections.

   Clear the fault code.

   Access the tractor's diagnostic menu (or use the Electronic Service Tool / EST) and clear the fault code.

   Cycle the key switch.

   Turn the tractor off, then back on.

   Operate the tractor and attempt to use the hitch raise function.

   Replace the Hitch Controller.

   If fault code 10072 is recorded again, the internal driver is permanently damaged.

   Perform a Hitch Calibration procedure.

   After replacing the controller, you will likely need to perform a Hitch Calibration procedure so the new module can learn the upper/lower limits and drop rates.
