Case IH 1008 – Hitch Control Module: Low side of raise solenoid connected permanently to GND

The low-voltage (return) side of the electromagnetic coil circuit for the hitch's raise valve is shorted directly to the chassis ground. This prevents the Electronic Draft Control (EDC) system from properly regulating the ground path to actuate the raise solenoid, often resulting in a total lockout of hydraulic hitch functions.

   Check the wiring harness running from the hitch control box to the raise solenoid on the remote valve block for rubbed, pinched, or bare wires touching the chassis.

   If operating a Steiger or Quadtrac, inspect the large wiring harness at the articulation point bridging the front and rear halves for intermittent shorts caused by movement.

   Ensure the connector at the raise solenoid is securely plugged in and free of moisture or corrosion.

   Disconnect the harness from the solenoid and test the low-side wire for continuity to ground using a multimeter. Continuity while unplugged indicates a shorted harness.

   Test the solenoid coil itself with a multimeter to ensure it has not failed internally and shorted to its own metal casing.

   Isolate the Circuit

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground to prevent module damage.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Identify the hitch control valve block at the rear of the tractor. Locate the specific 'Raise' solenoid (often paired with a 'Lower' solenoid on the EDC valve).

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a pinched or bare wire in the harness, cut out the damaged section, solder in a new wire, and seal it with heat-shrink tubing. Reroute the harness away from pinch points.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the wiring tests good but the solenoid coil is internally shorted: Unplug the electrical connector from the raise solenoid. Remove the retaining nut/screw holding the coil to the valve cartridge. Slide the old coil off the valve stem. Slide the new OEM coil onto the stem and secure the retaining nut.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the electrical harness, reconnect the battery, and power on the tractor. Clear the stored fault codes from the Hitch ECU and test the raise/lower functions to verify the repair.
