Case IH 1008 - UCM – UCM (Universal Control Module): Raise / work switch failure (command arm)
Issue description
The system has detected an electrical fault—such as an open circuit, short circuit, or implausible signal—coming from the raise/work switch located on the tractor's multi-function handle (command arm).
Applies to these machines
7 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Case IH Puma series
- Case IH Maxxum series
- Case IH Magnum series
- Case IH Steiger series
- Case IH MXM series
- Case IH MX/TG series
Check the cause
Inspect the raise/work switch on the multi-function handle for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing normal operation.
Ensure that the external lift/lower fender switches are not being operated simultaneously or stuck, as this can cause conflicts.
Check the wiring harness and connectors between the multi-function handle and the UCM/Armrest controller for open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to +12V.
Use the tractor's in-cab diagnostic H-Menu or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor the live state of the raise/work switch by repeatedly depressing it.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Access the Command Arm
Remove the necessary trim panels on the command armrest to access the wiring harness connector for the multi-function handle.
Inspect/Clean Connectors
Disconnect the handle's harness. Inspect the pins for corrosion or pushed-out terminals. Clean with contact cleaner and reconnect to see if the fault clears.
Replace the Component
If the wiring is intact but the switch fails diagnostic testing, the switch itself is faulty. Because the raise/work switch is integrated into the command arm joystick, the Multi-Function Handle assembly typically must be replaced.
Reassembly and Clearing Codes
Install the new multi-function handle and reassemble the armrest. Reconnect the battery.
Calibration
Clear the stored fault codes using the EST or the instrument cluster setup menu. Perform a hydraulic lift/hitch calibration to ensure the new handle communicates correctly with the UCM.
