10082

Case IH 10082 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Transmission Controller Failure -- Internal short in the Lube Valve Coil circuit

Issue description

The transmission controller has commanded the lube valve coil driver to the "OFF" state, but the controller is still sensing current flowing through the driver. The primary failure mode is an internal failure of the transmission controller itself.

Applies to these machines

  • STX Steiger
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH Steiger / STX Series

Check the cause

  1. Retrieve and clear codes via the Trans Setup Menu to see if TRANS 10082 returns immediately upon key-on

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the transmission controller and the lube valve solenoid for chafing, melting, or pinched wires that could cause a short

  3. Test the resistance of the lube valve solenoid coil to ensure it is not internally shorted, which could cause the controller's driver to burn out

Repair steps

  1. Turn off tractor and disconnect battery

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical arcing.

  2. Locate Transmission Controller

Locate the Transmission Controller (location varies by model, often found under the right-hand console or behind the cab trim panels).

  3. Disconnect wiring harness

Carefully disconnect the multi-pin wiring harness connectors from the controller.

  4. Remove faulty controller

Unbolt the mounting hardware and remove the faulty transmission controller.

  5. Install replacement controller

Install the replacement transmission controller and secure the mounting hardware.

  6. Reconnect wiring harnesses

Reconnect the wiring harnesses, ensuring the connectors are fully seated and locked.

  7. Reconnect battery

    Reconnect the battery.

  8. Perform transmission calibration

A newly installed transmission controller must be calibrated to the tractor. Enter the "Trans Setup" menu on the display. Follow the on-screen prompts (using the PROG and DECR keys) to perform the transmission fill process and clutch calibration.

Parts you might need
