Case IH 10091 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Transmission Controller Failure -- Internal 5 volt supply voltage is too high.
Issue description
Indicates an internal failure within the controller where the internal +5 V (or +8 V) voltage regulator is reading out of range on the high side.
Applies to these machines
14 machines- STX Steiger
- MX180
- MX200
- MX210
- MX220
- MX240
- MX270
- MX285
- TG Series
- Puma 170
- Puma 185
- Puma 200
- Puma 215
- STX / Steiger / Quadtrac Series
Check the cause
Monitor voltage using the electronic service tool (EST) MONITOR window and select 'TRANS BATTERY VOLTAGE' to observe what the controller is receiving.
Check the tractor's resting battery voltage to ensure it is within normal parameters (approx. 12.6V).
Test the alternator regulator output while the machine is running to ensure it is not overcharging and sending voltage spikes to the modules.
Inspect the transmission controller's main wiring harness connections for proper power and clean, secure grounds.
Repair steps
Test External Power/Ground
Perform the diagnostic checks above. If the alternator is overcharging or grounds are loose, repair those issues first, clear the codes, and retest.
Replace the Controller
If battery voltage, alternator output, and controller power/ground connections are all at correct levels, the internal 5V regulator has permanently failed. You must replace the Transmission Controller.
Clear Fault Codes
Install the new controller. Before calibration can begin, you must retrieve, record, and clear any stored fault codes.
Calibrate the Transmission
A newly installed transmission controller must be calibrated to the tractor.
Perform Calibration Steps
Enter the 'Trans Setup Menu' on the display. The calibration process will require the tractor to be running at a specific temperature. You will need to calibrate the inching pedal (ensuring it reads in a valid range) and the transmission clutches. Follow the on-screen prompts (using the PROG and DECR keys) until the calibration is complete and the display allows you to exit.
