1010

Case IH 1010 – AUX (Remote) Controller: Aux remote valve EXTEND LIMIT SET switch has failed in the Armrest Controller

Issue description

The system has detected an electrical fault—such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power—in the switch used by the operator to set the extend limit or timer for the auxiliary hydraulic remote valves. Because the signal is missing or out of the expected voltage range, the controller disables the extend limit function for safety and equipment protection.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • Case IH MX Magnum Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify the code using the tractor's Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the instrument cluster diagnostic display to confirm AUX 1010 is active.

  2. Check the physical action of the Extend Limit Set switch on the armrest to ensure it is not physically stuck, broken, or jammed by debris.

  3. Access the wiring beneath the armrest console and inspect the connectors plugging into the Armrest Controller for loose, bent, or corroded pins.

  4. Using a multimeter, test the switch for proper continuity when pressed and released. Check the wiring harness between the switch and the Armrest Controller board for breaks or shorts to ground.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.

  2. Access the Armrest

Remove the retaining screws on the armrest console housing to lift the cover and access the internal switch modules and the Armrest Controller board.

  3. Inspect and Clean

Disconnect the harness connected to the remote valve switches. Inspect the female and male pins for corrosion or dirt. Clean the pins thoroughly if any buildup is found.

  4. Replace the Component

If the multimeter test confirms the Extend Limit Set switch is internally shorted or open, replace the switch. Note: On many Case IH Magnum models, individual armrest switches are integrated into a larger circuit board/module. If the switch cannot be separated, the Armrest Controller module itself must be replaced.

  5. Reassemble

Reconnect all harnesses securely and reinstall the armrest console cover.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position, use the Electronic Service Tool to clear the fault codes, and test the auxiliary remote valve extend limit function to ensure the fault does not return.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Armrest Controller Module

    87454949

Standard replacement. When replacing the entire Armrest Controller, the new module may require calibration or configuration using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool.

  • Remanufactured Armrest Controller Module

    84165726R

Remanufactured Armrest Controller for MX Magnum/Steiger series. May require calibration or configuration using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool.

  • Aux Remote Valve Extend Limit Set Switch

Replace individually if not hard-soldered to the board.
