Case IH 1013 – Hitch Controller / EDC (Electronic Draft Control) module or Armrest / ICP (Instrument Cluster Panel) controller: Drop rate control potentiometer - signal too high

The electronic control unit is receiving a signal voltage from the drop rate control potentiometer that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This usually points to a short to power in the signal wire, an open ground circuit, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the drop rate control potentiometer and the Hitch/Armrest controller for pinched wires, chafing, or loose connector pins.

   Disconnect the potentiometer and use a multimeter to verify that the connector is receiving the proper 5V reference voltage and has a solid ground (an open ground circuit will cause the signal voltage to pull high).

   Test the potentiometer's resistance across the reference and ground pins (typically pins A to C). It should read approximately 10,000 ohms (10k ohms ± 10%).

   Perform a sweep test by monitoring the signal voltage or resistance while slowly turning the drop rate knob. The reading should provide a smooth sweep without spiking out of range or dropping out.

   Power down and disconnect battery

   Power down the tractor, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access potentiometer

   Access the control console or armrest where the hitch drop rate control knob is mounted. Carefully remove the necessary trim panels to expose the potentiometer and its wiring harness.

   Disconnect electrical connector

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the potentiometer.

   Remove faulty potentiometer

   If diagnostic tests proved the potentiometer is faulty (e.g., internal short or open track), remove the retaining nut or mounting screws and extract the potentiometer from the console.

   Install replacement potentiometer

   Install the replacement potentiometer, secure it in place, and reattach the external control knob.

   Reassemble console

   Reconnect the electrical connector and reassemble the console trim panels.

   Verify repair

   Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition key to the ON position. Verify that fault code 1013 is no longer active.

   Calibrate hydraulics

   Depending on the tractor model, you may need to perform a hydraulic lift/EDC calibration procedure via the tractor's diagnostic display after replacing hitch control components.
