Case IH 1015 – Hitch Electronic Control Panel / Electronic Draft Control (EDC) module or Transmission/Chassis Controller (XCM): Right-hand draft pin sensor - signal too high

Issue description

The signal voltage returning from the right-hand draft/load detection pin is exceeding the maximum allowable threshold (> 4.95 V). This typically indicates a short to power in the signal wire, an internal short in the sensor, or an open circuit on the sensor's ground wire.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the right-hand draft pin sensor on the rear 3-point hitch for pinched wires, chafing, or disconnected plugs.

  2. Disconnect the right-hand draft pin sensor connector (X256), inline connectors (X022), and controller connector (X093) to inspect for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins.

  3. Test the Ground Pin (Pin A) for continuity to ground, as an open ground will cause the signal voltage to default high.

  4. Test the Power Pin (Pin C) to verify the 8V or 5V reference supply.

  5. Test the Signal Pin (Pin B) for a short to the reference voltage or battery voltage.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken ground wire or a short to power in the harness between the sensor and the EDC controller, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness using appropriate weatherproof splices.

  3. Replace the Sensor

    If the harness tests perfectly, the internal potentiometer/strain gauge of the right-hand draft pin sensor has failed. Support the lower draft link arm to remove tension from the pin, remove the retaining bolt/snap ring, slide the old draft pin sensor out of the hitch casting, clean the bore, install the new draft pin sensor, secure the pin, and reconnect the electrical harness.

  4. Install Elimination Kit (Alternative Repair)

    For older Magnum tractors (e.g., 7100-8900 series, MX series) where draft sensing is no longer utilized, install an aftermarket Draft Load Sensing Pin Elimination Kit. Unplug both draft pins and plug the elimination modules into the harness to bypass the system and permanently clear the code.

  5. Calibrate Hitch

    Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and perform a hydraulic hitch calibration procedure via the tractor's display or diagnostic tool to learn the new sensor's zero-load values.
