Case IH 1015 – Instrument Cluster (IC) or Universal Control Module (UCM): Cluster System Voltage Below Normal (<11.5V)
Issue description
The control module is detecting that the electrical system voltage supplying the dash/cluster has dropped below the minimum operating threshold of 11.5 volts. This triggers an Amber warning telltale lamp. It is a general low-voltage electrical system fault, typically pointing to a drained battery, a failing charging system, or excessive voltage drop in the wiring harness supplying the cluster.

Check the cause
Use a multimeter to check the resting battery voltage at the terminals (should be 12.4V - 12.6V) and perform a carbon pile load test to ensure the battery can hold a charge.
Start the machine and measure the voltage across the battery terminals to test the charging system (should be 13.5V - 14.5V). If below 11.5V while running, the alternator is not charging.
Inspect battery cables, terminals, and chassis grounds for heavy corrosion, looseness, or fraying.
Check the wiring harness leading to the Instrument Cluster for chafed wires or loose connector pins that could cause a voltage drop between the battery and the cluster.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and remove the key.
Clean Connections
Disconnect the negative battery cable, followed by the positive cable. Clean the battery posts and cable terminals with a wire brush to remove any corrosion. Reconnect and tighten securely.
Replace the Battery (If Applicable)
If the battery failed the load test during diagnostics, remove the battery hold-down bracket, extract the old battery, and install a new heavy-duty 12V battery.
Replace the Alternator (If Applicable)
If the alternator failed the charging test: Disconnect the negative battery cable. Release the tension on the serpentine/drive belt and remove the belt from the alternator pulley. Disconnect the electrical connector and the B+ power cable from the rear of the alternator. Remove the alternator mounting bolts and extract the unit. Install the new alternator, torque the mounting bolts to factory spec, reconnect the wiring, and reinstall the drive belt.
Repair Wiring
If the battery and alternator are healthy, trace the power supply wire to the instrument cluster. Cut out any damaged sections of wire and splice in new wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink butt connectors.
Clear Codes and Verify
Reconnect all power, start the machine, and verify that the system voltage on the cluster reads above 11.5V. Ensure the Amber warning lamp turns off.
