Case IH 1015 - UCM – UCM: Right-hand load sensing pin - signal too high
Issue description
The load sensing pins (draft pins) are electronic sensors located at the lower link arms of the rear 3-point hitch. They measure the draft (pulling force) exerted by an implement. A "signal too high" condition means the voltage returning from the right-hand sensor to the controller is exceeding the normal operating range. This typically indicates a short circuit to power (+Ve voltage) in the wiring harness, or an internal failure of the sensor itself.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the right-hand draft pin for physical damage, packed dirt, or corrosion.
Harness Testing: Test the wire harness for damaged wires or a short circuit to power. Disconnect the sensor and check the signal wire voltage with a multimeter.
Swap Test: If the harness allows, temporarily swap the left and right pin connectors. If the fault code changes to the left side (Code 1017: Left hand load sensing pin - signal too high), the pin itself is faulty. If the code remains 1015, the issue is in the wiring harness or the UCM.
Repair steps
Lower 3-point hitch
Lower the 3-point hitch to the ground to remove all tension and weight from the lower link arms.
Disconnect battery
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to protect the UCM.
Disconnect electrical connector
Disconnect the electrical connector from the right-hand draft load sensing pin.
Remove retaining hardware
Remove the retaining hardware (usually a locking bolt, snap ring, or retaining pin) securing the draft pin to the tractor chassis/hitch assembly.
Remove faulty draft pin
Support the lower link arm and slide the faulty draft pin out.
Install new draft pin
Clean the bore. Insert the new draft pin, ensuring it is oriented correctly (many pins have a flat spot or alignment mark that must face a specific direction for accurate force measurement).
Reinstall hardware and reconnect harness
Reinstall the retaining hardware and reconnect the electrical harness.
Perform calibration
Power on the tractor, clear the fault codes, and perform a hydraulic lift/draft calibration via the UCM as outlined in the service manual.
Install Draft Pin Elimination Kit (Alternative)
Option B: If the tractor is used for tasks that do not require draft sensing (e.g., PTO work, drawbar pulling), install a Draft Load Sensing Pin Elimination Kit. This kit plugs directly into the factory harness, bypassing the pins and sending a fixed "normal" signal to the UCM to permanently clear the fault codes and disable draft sensing.
