Case IH 1016 - UCM – UCM / XCM / EDC / Armrest module: Left-hand load sensing pin - signal too low
Issue description
The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the left-hand draft load sensing pin that is below the acceptable lower limit. This is typically caused by a failed internal potentiometer within the sensing pin, a short to ground in the signal wire, or an open circuit in the harness.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and the plastic weather connector at the left-hand load sensing pin for corrosion, moisture, or physical damage.
Verify that the pin is receiving its 8V reference voltage. (Note: If the 8V reference voltage is too low, the system will typically log code 1019 instead).
Ensure the pin is fully plugged in. If both pins are disconnected, the system will log code 1018.
Test the signal wire from the left-hand load sensing pin back to the UCM/EDC controller for an open circuit or a short to ground.
Repair steps
Support hitch arm
Option A (Retain Draft Control): Support the lower left draft link/hitch arm securely.
Disconnect wiring harness
Disconnect the wiring harness from the defective left-hand load sensing pin.
Remove retaining hardware
Remove the retaining hardware holding the pin in the hitch assembly.
Remove old pin
Drive out the old load sensing pin.
Install new pin
Install the new OEM load sensing pin and secure the retaining hardware.
Reconnect wiring harness
Reconnect the wiring harness.
Perform auto-calibration
Perform the hydraulic lift auto-calibration procedure (often associated with code 1024) to calibrate the new sensor to the UCM.
Locate harness connectors
Option B (Bypass Draft Control): Locate the harness connectors for both the left and right load sensing pins.
Disconnect factory harness
Disconnect the factory harness from the physical pins.
Plug in elimination modules
Plug the two electronic load sensing elimination modules (dummy resistors) into the factory harness connectors.
Secure modules and wiring
Secure the modules and wiring to the chassis using tie wraps to prevent snagging.
Clear fault code
The diagnosis system will now read a fixed, acceptable signal, clearing Code 1016.
