Case IH 1017 - UCM – UCM: Left-hand load sensing pin - signal too high
Issue description
The voltage signal returning from the left-hand draft load sensing pin (located on the 3-point hitch lower link) is exceeding the maximum expected threshold. This usually points to a short to power (+12V) in the signal wire, an open circuit on the sensor's ground wire, or an internal failure of the load sensing pin itself.

Check the cause
Check the left-hand load sensing pin connector at the rear hitch for moisture, dirt, or corrosion, which can bridge pins and cause high voltage readings.
Inspect the chassis harness between the UCM and the left-hand pin. Look for pinched wires causing a short to a 12V power source, or a broken ground wire (an open ground will cause the sensor signal to default high).
Verify that the sensor is receiving its proper 8V reference voltage (a faulty 8V reference usually triggers companion codes 1019 or 1020).
Temporarily swap the left and right load sensing pin connectors. If the code changes to 1015 (Right-hand load sensing pin - signal too high), the pin itself has failed internally.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to protect the UCM.
Locate load sensing pin
Locate the left-hand draft load sensing pin on the lower 3-point hitch linkage.
Disconnect harness
Disconnect the electrical harness from the pin.
Remove retaining hardware
Support the lower lift arm and remove the retaining bolt/hardware holding the load sensing pin in place.
Remove defective pin
Drive the defective pin out of the linkage.
Option A (Replacement)
Install the new OEM load sensing pin and secure it with the retaining hardware.
Option B (Elimination Kit)
If installing a Draft Load Sensing Pin Elimination Kit, plug the electronic bypass modules directly into the factory wiring harness connectors and secure them to the chassis with tie-wraps. This permanently disables draft sensing and prevents the UCM from throwing the 1017 code.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery.
Perform calibration
If you replaced the pin with a functional unit, you must perform the Hydraulic Lift Calibration procedure (often prompted by fault code 1024) to teach the UCM the new sensor's baseline values.
